Norton 2009 blocks Hotmail

Before installing Norton Internet Secuirty 2009 (NIS 09) , hotmail worked. After installing it, hotmail leads to a blank IE 6 page with NO ERROR; I AM REFERRING TO THE LOGIN PAGE FOR HOTMAIL which is a Windows Live login page.

Also since installing NIS 09, it is impossible to download Firefox from the Mozilla website; I provide that for further info only to help you diganose the problem. My only interest in Firefox is it might fix the problem (and might not fix it).

Yahoo email and gmail and yahoo.com and News links off of yahoo.com ALL WORK.

NUMEROUS GOOGLE SEARCH RESULTS REPORT THE SAME THING; MANY PEOPLE HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM.

Turning off EVERY PART OF NIS 09 INCLDING THE FIREWALL IN THE NIS 09 SETTINGS DOES **NOT** FIX THE PROBLEM. PLEASE NOTE THAT. Yet the time sequence and numerous other forum theads confirm that Norton IS 100% CERTAIN CAUSING THIS. And another forum thread said that disabling the NIS firewall did NOT fix the problem for them either.

NOW GO TO
https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/22822160/Norton-360.html?sfQueryTermInfo=1+10+hotmail+norton
in THIS  forum. My problem descirption is EXACTLY THE SAME AS IN THAT THREAD except that THAT error does not come up when I go to hotmail.com BUT I happened when I  do something similar (type "hotmail, not www.hotmail.com in the IE6 address bar so it does an IE search)

Unfortunately the solution in that EE thread at http://service1.symantec.com/support/norton360.nsf/docid/2006113022291475?OpenDocument&lg=en&ct=us&seg=hho&src=hot
IS NOT A SOLUTION. That is a Symantec trouble shooting page with various branches depending on what you type.

(NOTE: The fact that the other EE thread is about Norton 360 is irrelevant, N 360 is all of NIS 09 plus unrelated stuff (Backup and Restore, etc).

Now I concede that the solution that link **PROBABLY** leads to at http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/norton360.nsf/docid/2006080713502775?Open&src=hot&docid=2008052120320575&nsf=norton360.nsf&view=docid&seg=hho&lg=en&ct=us&pid=2006113022291475&pkb=norton360

AND IF THAT FAILS AT

http://service1.symantec.com/support/norton360.nsf/docid/2008042506332075?Open&src=hot&docid=2006080713502775&nsf=norton360.nsf&view=docid&seg=hho&lg=en&ct=us&pid=2006113022291475&pkb=norton360

IS PROBABLY WHAT THE EE POSTER SAID WORKED BUT THIS IS NOT 100% CLEAR.

BOTTOM LINE: Please post a solution to the problem FROM YOUR OWN KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE.  Saying to uninstall Norton and get some other AV product is NOT ACCEPTABLE AS NIS 09 costs $52.49 and that is lost if I do that. The package has been opened and Federal
law says there can be NO REFUND on opened SW packages.

Also saying to change the NIS firewall or other settings is NOT a solution UNLESS you can provide exact step by step instructions with ALL DETAILS FILLED IN. i.e click (SPECIFY) in the Norton Security Center, then click (SPECIFY) next, then unchek the box to the left of (SPECIFY) and so on.

Regards,
  Mike

I have not tested the solution as the customer switched to FireFox and that solved the Hotmail problem.
