Cannot get check_hpjd working "Return code of 127 is out of bounds - plugin may be missing" on Nagios3

I cannot get the plugin check_hpjd to work. I found the plugin was not installed (missing from /usr/local/nagios/libexec ) and realized the net-snmp binaries needed to be installed ("The check_hpjd plugin will only get compiled and installed if you have the net-snmp and net-snmp-utils packages installed on your system. Make sure the plugin exists in /usr/local/nagios/libexec before you continue. If it doesn't, install net-snmp and net-snmp-utils and recompile/reinstall the Nagios plugins." - )
I downloaded the package from and "./configure - make - make install" and was done. Downloaded the plugins from and "./configure - make - make install, yet there is still no check_hpjd in the libexec folder and i continue to get the same error when checking printer status.
I figured the net-snmp-utils packaged described on the help document would have installed when i did the net-snmp package. I searched for net-snmp-utils and it kept directing me to the already installed SNMP agent. Am i missing something??

    Accepted Solution

This particular plugin checks for the existance of snmpgetnext, which should be located in /usr/bin/.  If ./configure is unable to find this in your path it will cause it to fail.

According to you get this file from the package "snmp".  Try installing this package with "apt-get install snmp" and then redo the compilation of the plugins.
