Why Isn't IE8 Remembering My Logins and Passwords?

Since upgrading to IE8, certain low security websites that used to automatically log me in when I accessed them (Facebook, MSN, Hotmail etc) no longer remember my log in or password, regardless of whether I check the 'remember me' box.

It also doesn't seem to matter that I have AutoComplete selected or that I have my security settings to 'Medium' - as low as I can take them.

I don't understand why it's doing it, but it's done it since I upgraded from IE6 to IE8 and was wondering whether anyone knew why it's doing it and how I can get around it?

    Hi there,
Have you try  -Tools / Internet options / Advanced and click Reset.. ?

It looks like that might have done the trick.. I'll use it for a few days and see how things go, then award the points if all is well.

Okay... that did work initially, but it stopped working today... so it must've been some option I changed after installing it and going through the set up wizard, because it was fine, even after that.

So I've re-traced my steps and I'm almost certain that the problem occurs if you have the 'Delete browsing history on exit' box checked in the 'Browsing history' section under the 'General' tab in the Internet Options, accessed via Tools > Internet Options.

That level off detail is for anyone else who has this problem. I've seen many people with this problem, but no one knew how to fix it, and it looks like that the problem is just a limitation of that particular option.

So thanks chin2000 for the advice - even though your answer wasn't strictly the solution, it did help me in so far as getting me to re-trace my steps post-install, so I will award points on that basis.
