Vista Cloning - Sysprep NOT Used
Posted on 2009-04-21
I had created a Vista Image using Ghost , once everything was as needed I performed a sysprep /oobe /generalize shutdown; ghost was used to create an image file after the system shutdown. We deployed this image to several hundred systems but ran into a problem with 1 organization. They had the image pushed to one of their pcs then decided to clone several dozen pcs after sysprep completed its oobe and reached the gui. Everything I have read indicates that this will pose problems although there are no reported issues by their users. We have not had a SMS push yet to these Vista machines so we are unsure what if any issues SMS will have if all of these pcs have the same SID. My question is: Is there anything that can be done at this point to replace the duplicate SID on these machines (approximately 50 machines with all profile information migrated from XP, all systems have been added to the domain and Vista has been activated), from what I have read newsid is not supported in Vista...also what problems can I expect to see from these pcs?
