Once I get the key is it legal for me to find another copy of the software online and use that key or should I contact Microsoft with it ... any direction?

ComputerTechieCommented:
Yes, if you own the software and have a legal key license to you.

You can get media pack which include the software without the key,

Do you mean another copy of Windows Server 2003?  Downloading that from somewhere other than MS is probably illegal, and that product key will only work with the version installed on your server.  You may be able to install the software from the original disks, but the product keys are set up to allow only 1 use.  The activation will fail and you will be required to call Microsoft to get past it, or the software will stop working after 30 or 60 days.

I didn't realize that you lost the software "AND" the key.  Since that is the case, your only options are to contact Microsoft to see if they can replace it or buy a new copy of Windows Server 2003.

Just contacted Microsoft and they told me my copy is OEM and they can't support ... I just tried a copy of windows 2003 server that I think may be the original disk and it will not get past the product key registration prior to the install... any other options before I have to buy a new copy?

Oh wait, you can try calling the OEM and asking them.  Who makes your server?

If it an OEM should there be a sticker with the key on the server?

CT,

Not only is he missing the Product Key, Deerek11 also seems to be missing the Windows Server 2003 install disks as well.

Deerek11 is this correct?
