new vlan not showing active

on the 6509-E I have created few vlans which are working fine, this 6509-E is the vtp server and other switches are connected to it working as vtp client. Recently I add another vlan on 6509-e which was connected to a new switiches. the new switch I configured is just like another switches I had done before.

strangly the new vlan which I created on 6509-E does not seems to be coming up , when checked on 6509-e the  interface is down, line protocol is down.

You're confusing a VLAN with a VLAN interface.

A VLAN interface will not be UP/UP unless the VLAN exists.

Do a "show vlan brief" and make sure it exists.

When you are configuring VLANs and you assign IPs to the VLAN interfaces dont forget the no shut interface command

thanks ppl,

I figured it out... suppose to do the following after the vlan interface is configured

(config)# vlan "vlan number"

and simply type exit.

That's what I said: "Make sure the VLAN exists". What you did was create the VLAN.

From the Experts Exchange help section:

What's the right grade to give?
Grading at Experts Exchange is not like school. It's more like the "10-point Must" system in professional boxing; in other words, an answer is worth an A, unless it doesn't resolve your issue. If it requires you to do a little more research, or figure out one more piece of code, then it's worth a B. If you think it's not worth a B, the custom is to offer the Experts an opportunity to earn a better grade.

Giving a higher grade has no impact on your Available Points.
