Google Search not working in google.com

A strange situation is cropping up on multiple computers.  Google search works with the Firefox homepage and with the Google Toolbar.  However, if I go to www.google.com and enter a term in the box and select Search nothing happens.  But if I do the same and hit I feel Lucky, then the results will show.  After I do this, Google search works fine until the program is closed and re-opened.  I've tried deleting cookies, cache, and creating a new profile.  Any other thoughts.

Run MalwareBytes . . . it is a free scanner.  Hve you tried using another Browser?
If it only happens with Firefox then delete it and re-install.

No malware and tried deleting and reinstalling.  Also, IE works fine with Google.

Hello wpmcj,

1. Disable or uninstall Google Toolbar.  Then test if Google will search correctly.

If no joy, disable other Firefox addins, as one may be interfering with Google Search.

If Firefox does not open, go to Start > Programs > Mozilla Firefox > Mozilla Firefox (Safe Mode)

2. Check if a program running in the background is interfering. Disable firewall, antivirus, antispyware, spam blocker, and desktop programs.

3. Clear your cookies and cache files. Go to Tools > Options > Privacy tab. Under Private Data, click "Clear Now" button.  Click OK.

4. If no joy, your profile is corrupt. Create a new Firefox profile

Then migrate your settings to new profile

5. Run Firefox Standard Diagnostics

6. If no joy, back up your bookmarks.  Uninstall Firefox and delete your Firefox profile files.  Then do a clean install of Firefox.

Hope this helps!

In your address bar, type "about:config" and hit enter
Under Preference Name: look for Keyword.url
double click keyword.url and paste: google.com/search?&q=
