XP WELCOME SCREEN

Is there a way to install your own text message on the welcome screen so we can put info about the computer they are sitting at. When employee is locked out we ask for full machine name and they are labeled on machine but sometimes machine is in floor. If we could individually put our own text into this screen, machine name, domain name call desk # ect we could eliminate alot of time looking for Full Computer Name. and get them up and running. This welcome screen is the screen that after screen saver kicks in that ask for user name and password.

What I am looking for is in a secure network enviroment when scrre saver is set for 10 minutes and when you come back to your computer you have a log in box with password. If customer types in wrong or is acidently locked out then the info I want is in or around block that has help desk number name of machine ect. so they do not have to get in floor or look for labels placed on pc. we spend alot of our time asking them to look for this. Sometimes users are not at their regular desktop and this info should be easily read off lock out page. Our admin has a pop up disclaimer that haas the legal stuff on it and you press ok that we could put this on but I was trying to make it on this logg on screen.

I read your question, did you try bginfo?

You can use build in feature of XP:

Start, Run, type: gpedit.msc

Go to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Local Policies > Security Options > find "Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on". Add some text and make logoff to test it.

If you are satisfied with the solution, you can easy distribute this setting to all computers via Group Policy on domain controller, if you have one.

That would absolutely not work, as the text needs to be different for each computer. The author wants the computer name to be visible to the user and BGINFO can do this.

Unfortunately, you cannot use VARIABLES in a text based logon banner.....

dstewartjr's suggestion of BGInfo should work fine. You can place it on the top corners, and remove any unneeded stuff, which would allow it to still be visible on the unlock screen.....

Tried This and it works fine. Can even put personal info such as phone numbers and emergency ifo but we will have to block end users from changing display.
