I have setup a lab site-site VPN, from some strange reason I'm losing every second ping. I have used to different images on the ASA 5505  (7.2 and 8) and have even tried a totally different Rotuer 2600. I have even tried totally different configs, easy vpn and traditional site to site. I have tried connecting the two devices through a switch and a crossover cable - but I still get exactly the same results, any ideas what could cause this??

You can get this from a routing problem. Can you paste the config?

you were right, I had the route for that subnet pointing to the outside interface (eg 10.101.0.0 255.255.0.0 ethernet 0/0) - changed it to the ip of the remote peer and worked straight away. Maybe the route doesn't like being pointed to the same interface with the crypto map on it, because take the vpn out of the equation and I didn't have the problem. thanks
