I have several External Data worksheets that were created in Excel 97 or possibly 2003.  I am currently using Excel 2007 would like to use the Table Formatting feature, but went I do this it is returning the follow message:
'Your selection overlaps one or more external data ranges. Do you want to convert the selection to a table and remove all external connections'
I don't want to say yes because I want to be able to refresh data.  Is there a way to change to table without starting all over?

    Accepted Solution

Your describtion leads me to think that you have selected multiple different external ranges, and excel appears not to accept the multi-selection for the convert to table functionality.

Select one external reference at a time, and proceed. Thereby excel should recognize each as a separate tables and keep the link.
