Is a client printer remap required when updating a print server driver?

I would like to update a print driver on a print server.  To obtain the updated print driver, will the clients need to remap the printer or will they automatically receive the updated driver?

Thanks.

Hi, this shouldn't be necessary.

Here are two links from Microsoft:

The first is kind of general, says it's for clusters,  but also answers the question for non-clusters, yes client drivers should update:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888744

The second refers to group policy:

Good Luck

If you  decide to delete and readd the printers you can accomplish this through a login script instead of going to each workstation.

Attached code would be the template for removing and re-adding in one step
NET USE LPT \\%SERVER%\%PRINTER_SHARE_NAME% /DELETE
NET USE LPT \\%SERVER%\%PRINTER_SHARE_NAME% /persistent:yes

The thing you need to be sure of, is that before the client driver update the drivers on the server and client already match before you start and that there are no other similar drivers in either location.

Plus the above script from JDominquezNY is a sweet sprinkle if you need to do that.
