Hi, I was trying to install a printer, HP laserjet 2015, to my HP desktop 7800. When I try and hook the USB cable into the computer, the moment i even get close to the USB ports my UPS battery backup starts beeping like there isn't enough power coming. It seems like i can't connect the printer to the computer, what is the problem?

Is the printer plugged into the UPS Battery Backup?  You should not plug laser printers into UPS devices.

No, the printer is plugged directly into the power strip and not into the UPS. Interestingly, the printer works fine with other models of the HP PC but not on the HP 7800 desktop pc.

Ok.  So if you unhook from the UPS and try to setup the printer what happens?  Is the UPS a SmartUPS?

What all do you have plugged into the UPS?  When you try to setup the printer on the other desktops that seem to work are they attached to the same UPS?

the UPS is a smart UPS. the only things plugged into the UPS is the desktop PC and nothing else. the printer is not plugged into the UPS. on the other desktops its the same setup, the only difference being the PC model. strange!

What happens if you swap the UPS on the pc model that isn't working with a UPS on a pc model that is working?  Trying to see if the problem follows the UPS?

Since it's a smart ups is it attached to the tower with USB then?  Did it come with a serial connector?  What if you change to the serial connection instead of USB?  Maybe something with how the USB is conifgured on that tower model.  If so, maybe (if you got one handy) add a USB PCI card and see if you can connect the printer to the PCI card and if the UPS to the onboard USB?
