How can I get rid of this windows media player 11 error: c00d11b1?

Hello Experts,

One of our users has music that she has ripped using a previous version of Windows Media Player.  After reformatting the users computer I put the backed up music on her computer.  Now when she attempts to play the .WMA music files using Windows Media Player 11 she gets the following error:

"Windows Media Player encountered an unknown error or file type."
Error Code: c00d11b1

I have tried rolling back from Windows Media Player 11 to Windows Media Player 9, but I get the same error message.  I have checked online, there does not seem to be a straight forward solution for this issue, so I was wondering if anyone here as encountered the issue and has a solution.

I believe this issue is a result of DRM files, basically licensing issues.  Not sure though.

I hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks.

There are a variety of possible causes ranging from DRM protected files, firewall and lack of correct codecs.

Thank you for the post dbrunton, I actually already found this site before posting to EE.

Okay, after trying multiple solutions such as

Rolling back to WMP 10 & 9
Installing Windows XP Codec Pack
Trying multiple settings in WMP11

I have found a very simple solution.  All that needed to be done is to reset the DRM files by going to
http://www.netflix.com/pages/previews/resetdrm.exe

Download the file and run it.  It will ask you if you would like to reset your DRM files, click yes.  Once you have run the file, play the audio file in WMP11 that was giving you the error.  The first audio file you play will launch Internet Explorer or your default web browser and connect to a Microsoft site to re-register your WMP11 DRM license.  Once you run the ActiveX controller and install the new license all your media files should work fine.

Thanks everyone.
