We have a W2K3 server @ our hosting site that we want to be able to send emails from via smtp calls. I have set it up as a relay in ESM, so it should be allowed to relay off our exchange server. When I telnet from that server to the exchange server, on port 25, it is able to send fine as long as the RCPT TO: is to an internal user. If I try the same test to an external user, I get:

550 5.7.1 Unable to relay for <external mail address>

BTW, this server is not a in our domain

When you send an e-mail to an internal user, you are not actually relaying. The server will accept your message because it is for the authorised domain. I would still double check the relay settings in ESM.

Do you have the correct public IP of the hosted server listed to allow relay in ESM?

Thanks for jogging my memory on this. This server has multiple IP's and the request to have this relay was for a partcular address and not the primary address of the server. Once I set it to relay from it primary address, all worked well. Thanks
