Hello,

I am suddenly unable to sync new phones or newly configered phones to Exchange 2003. Currently have over 40 users working fine with the same handsets. The problem only seems to effect new user or reconfiginga phone.

OMA works from desktops and phones, we do not use SSL. The error message is as follows

Result: ActiveSync encountered a problem on the server.
Support code: 0x85010001

It is possible that a update has been applied to the server because it was shut down recently to physically move the box. I have searched web and see loads of people have has similar issues but have yet to find a solution.

Thank you.

Any reason you aren't using SSL? It means everything including usernames and passwords is going across in the clear.

Use a test account on the Microsoft test site:

I have tried the Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync Test and it passes, but the majority of users out in the field are working, so that was to be expected. The problem only effects new phones or phones that are reconfigured for anew user.

We do have SSL enabled, but also works with out, i.e. OWA works on both HTTP and HTTPS, HTTP will be disabled soon. We used to have old PDAs that did not HTTP (or so i was told. never actually tested) so i enabled HTTPS about 6months ago, and when the users got thier new PDA about 3months ago they just copied the settings. Not got round to changing that yet. But I do know that we should be using SSL.

If the test works, then there is nothing wrong with the server configuration. It is either a device issue or a user account issue. If the problem was with the server then it would apply to all users.

When the devices are reconfigured, do you hard reset them?

Devices are always restored back to factory settings between users.

It is not an account issue because I am using my own account to test two handsets, and my own phone is still working fine.

Can see it being a hardware issues because I have easily configured about 100 of the devices over the years using the same settings, the settings that are on my device and work. There is only 4screens to set up active sync so would be difficult to get wrong. The error message says There is a problem at the server.

If you suspect it is the device, then seek out the latest build of Windows Mobile for that device and reflash the device.

Issue was related to non-committed security patches on the Exchange server. All devices now syncing without the need for changes to any devices.

It is always the simple solution.
