Can't seem to find ATI video driver.

I have been googling for a few days trying to find the Windows XP driver for ATI's Mobility Radeon 4530. It doesn't show up on ATI's or AMD's site. I not sure if it is safe to use some of those driver sites or not. Does anyone know if they are safe?

Thanks in advance!!

Those drivers aren't available from ATi.

The Mobility drivers must be obtained from the laptop/notebook manufacturer website.

Have you tried there?

Download SIW (http://www.gtopala.com/).  Click on PCI under Hardware.  Click on the video device on the listing on the right.
Give us the IDs under Vendor, Device, Subsystem Vendor, and Subsystem Device
The vista drivers should work for XP. I have the same card running in XP with the Vista drivers right now.
Meanwhile found these:
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_xp.aspx?type=2.4.2&product=&lang=English&rev=9.3&ostype=Windows%20XP%20-%20Professional/Home

Wondering if they will work in your system.

Just be sure you use the Installation Verification Software:
Validation utility to determine if Catalyst Mobility" is compatible with your system and download the driver.

Good luck.

blue_zee, I will run the IVS & check that. I have been getting any error message that the catalyst driver installation couldn't initialize or something to that effect. Also when I check the HP site, you have to tell it which model # you are looking for. I don't know which of their laptops use this card.

Aleinss, I will try that app you sent me & get that info & post it.

jbizzle979, I tried the one that came with Vista but it gave me an error message that I had the wrong OS. Is there a way around this?

OK aleinss, Here's that info:

Vendor - 1002h ATI Technologies Inc.
Device  - 9553h
Subsystem Vender - 103Ch
Subsystem Device - 3628h

I hope this helps. SIW seems like a nice piece of software. Is it accurate & reliable? What is it mainly used for?

Thanks!
SIW is very accurate.  It uses an internal database for PCI identification and not Windows.  It's use to dump information about your system.  I mainly use it for device detection without having to crack the PC case.

aleinss, Where do you look up this info to match it to a driver?

blue_zee, I get the message that "Unfortunately this software update can not be installed on your system. Please contact your notebook manufacturer for driver updates."

So this won't install.
That confirms my first post.

Can you tell us the brand name and model of your laptop/notebook?

Aleinss, Can you give me a link to that EXE? That does fit my cards specs. I have been searching HP all morning but haven't found this.

Thanks!!
Here you go: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp42501-43000/sp42658.exe
It would be interesting to know the make and model of your laptop to see if it points to the file I found.

blue_zee, Its a HP Pavilion DV6t. It came with Vista on it & I have hosed Vista & have installed Windows XP Media Center 2005. Right now the only driver I need is the display. I got all of the others installed.

aleinss, That's, I have downloaded it & will try it out. BTW, what laptop was it attached to??

Thanks again guys!!!
Wasn't attached to any specific laptop, I just Googled the description you gave us and found that link

jamietoner, I tried that site, but I don't know what driver to download. When you click on the download button it takes you to a site for some sort of driver scanner, not the actual driver. At least that's what I got.

aleinss, did you use the data from SIW?

OK guys here is the latest. I tried to install aleinss' sp42658 which did have a reference in the exe to 4530. The message I got back while installing was: "The Catalyst Install Manager failed to initialize." then "OK". I clicked the OK & got the same message with "......initialize Package Manager". The catalyst is still running with the message "Please wait while list is populated". So that is where it is now. Any suggestions???

Thanks! this is the closest I've come to finding the correct driver.

BTW, jbizzle979, Have you any suggestions on how to get around the message that I'm trying to install this on the wrong OS??
I have the driver on a disc, but I don't know how to load it on here.
jbizzle, you can use ee-stuff to upload it.

What kind of disk is it?? Did it come with the laptop? Is the swsetup disk??

Thanks!
It is the swsetup disk. I am trying to load it via jamietomer's suggestion right now.

I have the swsetup disk unless your is different. I did get it loaded from this folder, but it says that there problems with the driver. Maybe yousrs has something different to correct the problem. You just need to send me the video folder under drivers. Nothing else is needed.

Man, I'm getting drained on this thing. Is the catalyst really necessary? I've tried to install it from different versions from 6-9.4 without any luck getting it installed. I get the same old messages. If I could just get the driver installed, I would throw a big party with free beer.

Thanks for all of your help!! This is probably the best place to get problems solved on the net.

Does anyone think that integrating SP3 is causing this video driver issue?? I have had some problems with some clients that have installed this & we had to uninstall it.

Also, jbizzle979, were you using windows XP Pro with SP2 & not SP3? Also were you installing Windows XP Media Center 2005??

Thanks!!

No!!

jbizzle979, Can you send me the files offline?? I think I only need the folder SWSetup\Drivers\ & just the video folder here. You could zip it up & send it to me.

I may even be able to use the folder SWSetup\Drivers\Video\ & just the Packages folder, as I think this is where the actual driver is located.

I can install the driver from this folder, but then windows says it can not load it because it maybe damaged or corrupted.

Thanks!
Did you try that omega driver from the download link? If not that link is now expired here's a new one

This is a new one. I downloaded a different one. I hope I can get something to work with this one. I kept getting the error message that the catalyst can not initialize. But the software kept on running. At the end, it says it has errors & couldn't install the driver.

Thanks! I hope this one works.
The omega driver is what I usually install on laptops with ATI cards.

I'm still getting the message that the installer can't find a compatible driver. Maybe I did something wrong in the installation. Any suggestions??

Is there any special way to install the omega drivers???
I never had too. Has the chipset driver been installed?
Avatar of Blinkr

I just went thru all of the Catalyst driver releases all the way back to 8.1 & none of the list the 4530 at all. They do list the 4550 & 4350, but nothing compatible with the 4530. There has got to be a driver somewhere. I installed the latest Omega driver & continued to get the error message that it couldn't find a driver compatible with my hardware.

Hey jbizzle979, how are things coming with that up load. I would sure like to try yours. As mine continues to say it can not start because the driver is corrupt.

Thanks!

jamietoner, if you are referring to the Intel chipset, then yes it has.

Sorry guys but I had to restore the Vista back. My client didn't want to wait any longer for a solution. Thanks for all of the help. It was a great learning experience.

I feel like there may have been something else going on because when I tried to reinstall Vista near the end of the installation I got an error message telling me that something wasn't successful & restart the installation. I tried this 3 times from the disks I made & twice from the partition on the hard drive. I ended up giving it back to the client & told him to contact HP for an RMA.

But I learned alot from this & picked up a new util. Thanks for all of the help!!
Tell him to pick up a Dell, he'll be much happier :)
Dell still supports XP, at least on their corporate series of laptops (E6400, etc)
