Webcam microphone on Dell XPS M1330 not showing

Hi -
I've got a client's XPS M1330 that we had to rebuild. We did (Vista), and loaded all of the appropriate drivers from Dell's site. Everything seems to work except the microphone on the integrated webcam. The webcam itself comes up fine in Skype, and has its little control applet, but that shows nothing but the video.
Vista recognizes that there's a front microphone port, but shows no other recording devices.
Haven't had any luck googling.
Anyone hit this before?

If there's only one audi input device, the microphone is probably connected to the audio-in of the internal sound-card.. You can test that by connecting an external microphone via the 3.5mm jack socket. If that works, then it's the microphone itself, perhaps the connection has become detached from the motherboard

I did test the front-panel mike input, and it works, but I'm not clear on what that proved. The front-panel mike always showed up, just as disconnected. The webcam mike did work before the rebuild, I should have explicitly mentioned that, sorry. I'm thinking weird driver problem, but I can't see what.

I'm sorry, sounded kind of like a jerk in that last post. :(
I see where you're going, breaking it down to a specific mike versus the whole sound card input. I think the non-detection thing points to that specific mike, and the fact that it worked before (which I should have mentioned) seems to knock it down to drivers.

Ah. It was the sound driver, which seems somewhat obvious in retrospect. The other person who started the rebuild didn't install the FULL specific driver set from Dell (no reason to, the sound was working fine). Thank you for turning my thinking to it being an actual input to the audio card rather than a fully separate peripheral! Once I thought about it that way it WAS obvious. 250 because it was a very helpful tip but not technically a full solution. Fair?
