IMHO, it's really not necessary. The salesforce system processes over a million transactions per day. Your relatively small amount of data is not going to affect the performance of the system, in reality.

What you DO need to watch out for is your data capacity. If you go to Setup>Data Administration>Storage Usage you will see your amounts and limits. Be sure you have enough top end capacity to handle your data load. Salesforce will only allow you to go 10% over your limit before the rest of your import will fail.

Also, although less of a concern, each import uses an "API Call". You have a certain limited number of these per day... although in my experience, salesforce usually ignores these limits if it is only exceeded for a day, because they realize people tend to load data in large chunks at a time. BUT, if you are really concerned, you should contact your customer success manager and let them know you have a large data load to do and want to be sure that the load is not impacted by this API limit being exceeded for your one time data load event.

If you need to assure anyone of system status of your salesforce server, you can always point them to http://trust.salesforce.com which provides basic real time system status monitoring.

Click on Setup>Administration Setup>Company Information>Company Profile.

It will say something like

API Requests, Last 24 Hours      473 (5,000 max)

in one of the fields on the page.
