Software for find & replace in MP3 track titles

I have various MP3 files whose titles are so long that I can't tell the difference between them on the little screen on my player. For example, "Unit 1 Grammar Lesson 1. Masculine forms" and  "Unit 1 Grammar Lesson 2. Feminine forms" look the same because the screen only shows the first 10 or so characters.

I have Tag&Rename, but I don't think it includes this functionality.

Can anyone recommend software for performing search & replaces in track titles? I want to replace every instance of "Grammar Lesson " with "GL", for example.

Thanks.

I was going to suggest DOS commands but this program is much easier. Lupas Rename 2000

It will do what you're looking for.

Here's a screenshot showing how to rename multiple "new text document" files to "new text docs"

Thanks weedavie. I noticed that you used text files rather than MP3 files to text it out.

Just to be clear, this app can modify an MP3's *title* attribute, right?

I am not trying to modify the file name (though that might be useful, too).

Thanks.

Oh, nevermind. I see that the feature list mentions the TITLE attribute. Sorry about that. Will try this out. Tx.

Okay, I installed that app, but there's no help or FAQ explaining how to do this.

On the features list on the webpage http://rename.lupasfreeware.org/lupasrename.php, it mentions that you can add a "tag" to any textbox to modify MP3 attributes.

 Do you know what the syntax is for doing this? Is it something like "<title>substring1</title>"?

Thanks.

Having siad that I'm sure that lupas rename will work for you. Changing the file name will change the "title" tag.

Renamer is a great program for this.  I have used it to do exactly what you are looking to do.  Below is a link to it:

Sorry for disappearing for so long.

@orangecraws
I've downloaded and explored Renamer, but it only edits file names as far as I can tell. I see no way to do that search & replace for the track *title*. Like everything else.

@weedavie
The screen shots you posted for Lupas only show edits for the file name and I don't see a way to change the target of the action to the title tag.

However, I finally figured it out with Mp3Tag. You can do it in Mp3Tag v2 (http://www.mp3tag.de).
Here's the process:
CONVERT --> ACTIONS --> NEW --> [name your custom action] --> NEW--> [Choose REPLACE] --> [Choose the TITLE tag and enter the find & replace values--> SAVE

Then you just select the action and hit OK to run it. Whenever you want to do a new tweak, edit the action and change the find & replace strings as needed.

Voila!

Man, that was like Quest for Fire. I'm surprised by how hard it was to figure out a way to do this. This can't be that usual a need.

I understand why this isn't a standard feature. The last thing you want to do is accidentally give a bunch of songs the same title, but in the case of multi-part lectures this very handy.

BTW, here are the programs that I tried and which as far as I can tell do NOT allow you to edit the title tag (at least in their freeware version):

* Lupas Rename 2000
* Mp3/Tag Studio v3.05
* MP3 Rename
* ReNamer

Judging by this post, it sounds like this Foobar 2000 app (which I know nothing about) might also allow these kinds of tag edits. But I didn't try it out.

Thanks for the help, folks.
