synergys "not running" why?
When I start synergy server on my windows xp box, the a red circle with a red line appears in the taskbar instead of the standard icon...and if I hover over that text, it says "synergys not running" even though I have to forcefully taskkill /f /im synergys in the command prompt to get it to stop running...
Why?
Why?

Oh, also, simlpy right clicking on the icon in the tray and selecting quit from the menu does absolutely nothing. It's not even listed in the process list on ctrl+alt+del which is why I have to run tasklist and then taskkill.

Ok, I can now find the app in tasklist and terminate it that way but that doesn't resolve anything...

btw, exceptions for both the client and the server have been added to wicf.
Try killing the FW first of all....
Might need to uninstall it/reboot/reinstall it... Might be something broken in the app.....

>>I have uninstalled, reinstalled, uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled, rebooted...to no avail.
I will try killing the firewall after I unplug my lan cable. I don't really want to be unprotected though...so, if that's really the issue, I'll just forget about using synergy.

Are you behind a hardware firewall?

All I'm behind is my router but....it works fine with other computers behind the same router. So, that's not it. I'd totally think the same thing you thought about it, "uninstall it/reboot/reinstall it" and more and more I think it must be broken but of course, like I said, I've already done that. It just doesn't make any sense...but then, that's my life with computers...it seems there is always an anomaly.
I was just curious as to the firewall, since you had Windows FW running as well.... Not a fan of that......
Jumping back to basics, as long as you can ping the machines, (cant rememeber if there is a port setting or not), it should work fine.
"btw, exceptions for both the client and the server have been added to wicf."
I would try resetting the XP Firewall, and then disable it for testing......
start>run>cmd
netsh firewall reset
then reboot, and disable the FW. If it works, readd the synergy exceptions, and retest....

Synergy still reports that it is "not running" and there is no information on this error anywhere on their site. Additionally, disabling the firewall does nothing.
It is very strange. I even deleted the configuration file and then started from scratch after uninstalling and reinstalling every single file. I also rebooted...I also even tried calling synergys.exe from the command line and told it to report any INFO...of course, it doesn't report anything except: "not running"
This same exact configuration works fine on all my other machines. This computer was just reformatted and has the exact same state as all my other machines. I'm fresh out of ideas.
