Using a JVC CU-VD10U dvd burner, keep getting formatting failed error message
Using a JVC Everio Sharestation DVD burner to burn DVD's from recordings on our JVC Everio MG 37U camcorder we keep getting errors. It will burn a disc and then have 3 or 4 dvd's that fail. The error message says formatting failed. We have tried Maxell, Sony and Memorex brand DVD's.

Thanks for the information. We have been using DVD-R discs. We have limited sources here for media so I will look online. I will try the Verbatims if I find them locally. We are wasting a lot of money on "coasters" ; ) Thanks

If you can wait a couple days for delivery, I'd just order a spindle of the Taiyo-Yudens => unless you have a physical problem with your Sharestation they will almost certainly work fine ... they're about the best media you can get.

I have ordered some of the Taiyo-Yudens from the link you sent me. I will let you know how it goes. They had great reviews on the site. Thanks again for the info.
Noticed this was still open -- did you get the Taiyo-Yudens yet?

We did get the Taiyo-Yudens and are still experiencing formatting errors. We used 14 discs to get 4 successful discs. Frustrating but it just costs a little more and takes a little more time.

I won't object to closing this however you'd like -- but I do think my final comment is on the money ... there's simply a problem with your burner. You've tried several types of media -- including premium Taiyo-Yuden blanks. With the results you're getting, it's fairly clear that the burner is the problem.
I'd send it in for repair.
I'd send it in for repair.

I originally was going to delete this question but agree with garycase, there is some hardware issue that we cannot repair. This was my first attempt at a delete and didn't know if isolating the problem to something beyond repair was acceptable. Thanks for the help garycase!
In addition, DVD-R recording devices can be very sensitive to the quality of the media, so you should use top-quality premium blanks.
These are arguably the highest quality DVD-R media you can get (I've tried many brands over the years; but have now used Taiyo-Yuden exclusively for close to 3 years -- over 1,000 burns with zero "coasters"): http://www.supermediastore.com/taiyo-yuden-silver-thermal-8x-dvd-r-media.html
If you want to buy something locally, and can't find Taiyo-Yuden, then try Verbatim DataLife Plus media.
