Make a shortcut .bat that opens two programs?

I need to make a .bat that opens two other shortcuts in order

The first is MS Word

And the second is this "C:\ldoc_ws\verchk.exe HDRUN"

How do I do this?

    start /d "C:\Windows\system32\" calc.exe

    Do you need the batch file to wait long enough for Word to finish opening before starting verchk.exe?
