to backup the databases before sp3

I would like to update the service pack 3 on the sql server 2005..servers is very critical..Could I create a SnapShot before I run the update?if so,how can I create snapshot? or are there any method as SnapShot? which is the best method to backup the databases before updating?

    I would recommend a normal fullbackup.
    If you have a VLDB, backup filegroups using your normal schedule, now do a transaction log, and do a test restore on another system.
    I would definately do this on a test machine first if uptime is critical. It would leave you with a nice 'back out' plan should things not go as expected.

    When you evaluate my responce, keep in mind that I dont use snapshots in my work, and I am not an expert regarding snapshots. I'm writing since you have not received any response, and as always I recommend KIS (Keep it Simple).
