Canon PIXMA 980 problem printing Adobe Reader 9.1 PDF

Hi,

My newly installed Canon MP980 is producing a wingdings like output (see attached file) when I try to print a pdf.

Having read through a few similar threads I tried the 'print to image' setting. No joy. I have attached a second graphic showing the print settings I tried with adobe

Reinstalling the printer, and deleting the prior printer drivers also did not help

I could not see any other options via the printer settings in control panel that looked promising

Regards

Dave

there is a font missing, or some particular font is not getting transferred to the printer.
normally this happens when the security settings of the PDF does not allow printing.
try printing to a different printer...

at the very beginning, try these things:
1) uninstall the driver and softwares completely, and do a reinstall after downloading the lates driver set from here http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=2610&modelid=17357#DownloadDetailAct
2) try printing from another computer

also, i saw that you tried with "print as image" turned on.
just try a different version of adobe reader - i think that will solve the issue.
if you can get a copy of adobe acrobat, not acrobat reader, try with that - some security settings are bypassed.

just curious, is the print normal from other applications??

do let us know,

1) its my only printer
2) its my only computer
3) as above I have already deleted and re-installed the drivers (from the canon website)
4) I believe version 9.1 of Adobe Reader is the latest version - why would a different (earlier?) version help
Cheers

Hi Dave,

After looking at your printer settings (canon-adobe9.1.pdf) it seems to be there are two boxes which are checked - Download Asian fonts and Convert TrueType to Type1. Can you try the following and see if this helps:

Under Advanced Print Setup click the PostScript Option in the top box on the left side. Under PostScript Options, uncheck Download Asian Fonts, and Convert TrueType to Type 1.

Ardhendu,
I couldn't access those greyed-out options, even after I tried adjusting the Languages setting in Control Panel...

Can you try unchecking the "Print as Image" checkbox and see if that helps?

I assume you are using the same account that was used to install this software to make these changes, right?

Thanks,
- Ardhendu

Arhendu,
I had tried that earlier (unclicking 'Print as Image') with no luck. I have tried all combinations of settings possible.
I am an account administrator , the machine has Vista Business installed

please check if you have Arial Unicode (its a font) installed.
if no, install it.
if yes, reinstall it.
also reinstall MS Office.

also, try rolling back to a previous version of Adobe Reader. this is a known fix. the link to download previous versions of Reader is posted above in my previous post.

I tried the font fix, no joy

Before I try the Office reinstall I'd like to understand the reason for doing so?

I would prefer running with the latest version of reader rather than stopping at an earlier version and ignoring future updates

Cheers

Dave

Dave,

Can you also try the following?

Instead of creating a PDF using the Canon Printer can you try using the following printer driver - http://www.primopdf.com/

If you are still having issues in the PDF which is created from PrimoPDF too, then the culprit would be Adobe and not your printer settings. You can then try Hathehariken's suggestion.

But my money is on the idea that your printer settings are not correct and there is nothing wrong with your Adobe ... :)

Guys,
Sorry for the delay. I have been waiting for cable to be installed at home as opposed to using my work connection for downloads. The cable should be in today
.... which means xbox live as well Ardhendu. Finally :)
