Outlook 2003 Exchange 2007 messaging tracking problem

We recently installed an sbs 2008 box up from an sbs2003 setup   and since then the one person who needs messaging tracking for her email is having problems.

I'm getting internal and external delivery and read receipts in the inbox  but the email in sent items will show the tracking tab but only with delivery info for internal recipients.

She needs the info in the tracking tabs for external delivery as a form of paper trail.

any ideas?

You cannot rely on that kind of tracking at all. At most you will get a delivery report, confirming the message was delivered to a server, but in some cases you will not even get that. For example if you were to deliver a message to my server you wouldn't get anything other than the basic report generated by your server, which doesn't prove anything.

I think you are expecting too much from the message tracking functionality in Exchange 2007. The bottom line is that you cannot prove anything has happened with external email. If you need to show something was delivered, do not use email.

technically not helpful. It worked with Exchange 2003  no reason for the same process not to work with Exchange 2007 but this is microsoft we are dealing with so to be expect.

thanks anyway for that depressing post. The search goes on.

I would have to disagree about it working in Exchange 2003. The limitations of the feature are still the same - you are reliant on the remote server, which is something that cannot be relied upon due to the nature of SMTP.

If you need to know something was delivered, then use a courier service - email should be considered best effort at most - in much the same way as regular postal email.

It may not be the answer that you want, but I simply trying to set realistic expectations.
