Which version are you using?
Generally, ifyou want to block s specific site, recategorize it to one of the blocked categories, or create a custim category and then block it.
Websense Blocks categories and not sites, so you have to add the site first to a category.

Web Sense Manager ver 6.3.2

Attached are a few snapshots of my Web sense. Would you be able to guide me on how can i block a specific website and where do i browse to add it to a certain category ? It would be great to know how can i block that website only for the network 10.149.10.0 ... but if that takes too much time, u can just advise me on how can i block that specific website (http://vasi.net ) for all networks ...

Your effort will be really appreciated ...
Sorry, this is the snapshot !

1- I see you use a policy called IDC for the network selected, and is allowing all sites!!! You should use a policy that blocks some categories. Are you using this policy for all networks?
2- Close the tab of Workstations and networks and send another snapshot.
3- Your configuration is very strange.
You need to move your question to inyternet security.
Hi there,
Yes, I can actually see there is a global policy, IDC, managers and Power Users  ... There is a * next to global policy so am not sure what would that mean ? Attached is a snapshot !
Unfortunately, the guy who configured all this is not with company anymore and didnt do a proper handover which is why am in this situation right now !

I suggest you contact Websense Support.
But Generally, using Global for all users is convenient (if not altered).
Looks like the guy who left allowed everything to everyone.
I actually have an evaluation version of their product and not sure if they would be able to accomodate me ... Would you be able to confirm if the policy applied is global by default or is websense actually taking the Policy IDC into account ? if any more snapshots are required, please let me know ...
Evaluation version runs only for 30 days, and looks like your trial has expired, this is why all appears as monitor only.
Please go to the Menu/Server/Settings
This should tell you if WS is still working or not. (send a snapshop ifyou wish).
attached is a snapshot ... does it mean it expired on feb 12, 2009 ????????????

ok ... can you please tell me where can i check that setting where i can set it to block all traffic ?
i..e block all traffic when WS is expired
1. In Websense Manager, choose Server > Settings.
2. Select Common Filtering at the left.
Common Filtering settings
3. Check Block users when subscription expires or is exceeded.
thanks a lot for your support .... During the time we get our subscription renewed, ill have a read of the web sense admin guide ... but from what i plan to do is to use global policy for all as a start and later down the track, ill define them as per subnets ... just out of curiosity, is it a lengthy task to implement the default policy ... also, i would wanna get rid of the other policies defined and just use the global default policy ..
thanks..
Websense Deployment is easy and straightforward if you understand the concepts.
You will have to go thru the manual before starting.
By the way, if the original setup was ok, renewing the license will keep all existing settings, otherwise installing a fresh installation will give all users Global policy (in 6.3.2).
ok ... but my existing settings even show monitor only mode, isnt it ? or is it because the subscription is expired that its not even letting me see what was defined originally in the policy ?
