Is it possible to write a script or a simple application that can maximize an application from the System Tray - -  OR - - is there a switch I can use with a shell command to launch an application that forces its window to be displayed and not directly hidden in the System Tray?

Unfortunately there isn't a standard mechanism for "restoring" an app from the TRAY.  If the app doesn't provide an API or command-line switches then it's not an easy task...what app are you working with?
