Voice Controller Card change

Dear All,

We have the attached configuration in our cisco 7206 router to facilitate voice calls. VXC-2TE1+ port has been inserted in Slot 1.

Now from one port s1/0 the outgoing calls are not going out but incoming calls are coming through with out any issue. As per the telecom technicians advice we need to change the card in slot 1. we are already procured a temp card for testing.

Now can i just insert the same card just like that ? after insertion do i need to configure everything which was there with the old card or it will be taken from the old card?

Once the testing is over i need to revert back the old card.kindly guide me to test the new card and revert back the old card after testing .


What are the neccessary steps i should follow to carry out the task.

Any response will be highly appreciated.

what card are you replacing it with? You cannot do OIR on the 7206 so you will have to power it down.

Dear Harbor,

We are going to replace the existing card in Cisco 7206  router with the same model  "VXC-2TE1+ port " for testing the Outgoing calls. right now we have issue in one controller card.

Attached the configs we have right now with us in this router. while changing the card what are the configuration do we need to do in the router . ex- DSP,Voice port,Dsp farm e.t.c

If it is the same model card then just power the router down, insert the card, and power on the router.
The config will be fine and you will not loose any configuration.

After  i remove the card will all the above configuration would be there in the router?

Yes, but remember, do the following;

1) Save your active config (wr mem) and then save the active config to notepad on your PC or file on a
linux box
2) shutdown your router
3) Replace card
4) Power up router

All your config will be there and you have a saved backup off of the router and on your PC.

I have the following router with me. can i just remove the card and plug in new card?

"cisco 7206VXR (NPE225) processor (revision A) with 114688K/16384K bytes of memory"

No, the 7206 does not support online insertion (OIR) and removal, it must be powered down first.
