Error when trying to backup database to tape with mssql 2005

Hi,

I've been asked to setup a backup job onto tape for our sql database. I'm unfamiliar with tape as I've always backed up to an offsite disk but need to backup to tape as well as part of our business continuity plan. I can backup to disk fine but when I use the wizard to familiarise myself with backing up to tape I get the error message: -

Write on tape drive (\\.\Tape0) failed error 19. These are new tapes so I presume I need to set the radio button to:

Backup to new media set, and erase all existing backup sets.

Hope you can help.

Many
Thanks
Lee

Hi,

Thanks for your comment. I'm using my logon at the moment which has sysadmin which if I rightly remember has diskadmin included in its role? This might sound like a stupid question but how do I check the tape media as the tape drive does not show in my computer? The drive seems to work as it sounds as if it is reading from the tape media.

Many Thanks

Hi,

I've just downloaded Yosemite to test the tapes out and it comes up with the message "Error 4041: Write protected" when I go to backup a file to tape even though the tab is not set to write protected. I've just found out from my boss that the tapes are indeed second hand and not new as I specified before. I apologise for the mis-information earlier.

Best Regards
Lee
