ISS-020198

A client of mine just called she saw this name under her network places but now it is gone. She would like to know what it is as she has had security breaches before.

I have not been able to find any info on this file online so far.

To me it sounds like a hostname, essentially a pc name, this could be any one of her neighbors connecting to her home networks wireless. Generally this is harmless, and all they are there for is to leech off of your internet access. Unless she has files shared betwon her network or one of her neighbors is veritable hacker/pc wizard, then she should be ok. (i.e. no damage taken captain)

However, she should secure her system as soon as is possible. This can be done relatively easily and quickly.
Here's an informatory link.
http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/wirelessproducts/qt/macaddress.htm

Have someone log into her router and setup mac address filtering. I can walk you through this process but we'll need some information first.
What Brand and Model Router is she using?
How Many pc's connect to the network wirelessly?

The wireless router is not functioning at the moment. It is powered up but not connected to the modem to allow internet access.

The machine which showed the message has both ethernet and wireless access.

Additionally there is WPA on the Wireless router.

Sorry, for the delay... I've been searching. As youv'e said there really isn't anything on this.. Earlier you stated that ISS-020198 was found in my network places. I am confused about what exactly it is. Since your saying it's a message was there anything else in the message? What other information do we have about the message? What application?(displayed in web browser, standard windows message box.) Is it possible to get a screenshot?
