HP printer installation error message

I have had a few problems with my HP C4580 printer, so I uninstalled the HP kit, and re-installed.  During the re-installation an error message has come up saying that I do not have on my computer 'installation package HP Update.msi'.  Do you know how I deal with this?  It would appear I can't get the printer reinstalled without having this.

Many people report this problem. The most comprehensive explication I have found is here:

Several people suggest using the Microsoft Windows Installer Cleanup utility:

I would suggest uninstalling the HP software, run the Cleanu utility, then try again.  If that does not work, try the steps outlined in the post above:

"...Open Add/Remove Programs, uninstall HP Update (if listed), also try and uninstall HP Software Update.
Download, and iInstall Windows Installer Cleanup, once installed, run it and select HP Software Update.
Run regedit and locate HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall, find anything under that, that says HP Update or HP Software Update, its usually in the DisplayName.
Download and run patch Resolves Fatal Error 17143 during software install (FixErr1714.exe)
Download and run HP Update (sp34261.exe)
Download and run http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?product=3418707&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&lang=en&cc=uk&submit=»

Once again, good luck!!!

When I try to install 'basic driver' it says it's unable to fulfil my request at this time. (I also tried last night, with same response).  NB I tried 'installation' rather than 'download'.

Full feature software and driver, critical update to prevent unresponsive state, critical update to prevent a pc to printer communication issue & critical update for HP photosmart essential - all installed, but still no joy.

See attached 2nd error message that comes up (as well as first one).
