problems with a Dell Inspiron 910 mini?

a friend of mine has a dell mini laptop and his step-son had admins rights and a password set so i logged in as admins and set-up a new admins profile, changed his step-sons to limited (it's win XP w/ SVC pack 3 btw) anyway i ran defrag and it wouldn't complete the defrag and i set-up a scan disk which also seemed to freeze, now when he logs in under his step-sons profile it's getting a blue-screen error:
error code 0F00:0244 MSODISK_0 block 838520 can't read, replace disk or remove write protection also got errors in 3 more blocks when i ran some diagnostics i got errors on these:
blocks 8318521,8318523,8318525.
i ran a chkdsk and there was no bad sectorsthe only thing  can find in device manager is error loading driver for "compal embedded system control" i am not sure what that is  or if it's causing the problems , i feel bad because i was just trying to help him out but now i feel like i made things worse, is it possible defrag or scandisk could actually mess something up? i can add more details

You should re-enable the step sons account to Admin, you prob disabled something installled with that account.
It's possible that there is a hardware problem and this is just bad timing, but try this first.

If it fixes the issue, then just rename the password of this admin account and create a new account for his stepson to use. You can copy over his favorites, etc from the other account.

If it does not fix the issue, then there might be something wrong with the hardware..but I kind of doubt it since it alll started happening when you made changes to the accounts.

ok well he hasn't called so far tonight so maybe that helped, because i thought the same thing and before he left last night that's what we did, changed it back to admins and just removed the passwords...but i didn't check cause it was late ....but Thanks i'll keep abreast of the situation and post anything futher...
