What does the "FF" motherbord code mean. EVGA mobo.
I received a pc that is going through post,EVGA logo, & windows start up, extremely fast. Then it goes to black screen with "FF" on the motherboard. I tried the board with tested memory. I tested the power supply with a power supply tester. I tried Puppy Linux, Unbuntu, & Suse. It sounds like they finish loading but just the black screen i the end.
Any thought would be appreciated.

if it does not boot from your disk, you can swap the disk and cd connection, to test the disk on the cd port, and VV
btw - what disk is it ? and mobo ? sata, ide ?

It's an EVGA nForce 680i sli, XP Pro sp3, sata Seagate 500gig, 4 gigs Coarsair dominator,Sony cdrw. I will try a different hard drive. Thanks Ed
is that a fresh install ? or did you move it from another pc ?

It's a fresh install. It originally just started last week on a fresh install I did at Christmas. If I reboot a 3 or 4 times it will sometimes work just fine once it's started. I played Fear 2 all night Monday. It took 5 reboots to get it to work. I just got home from work & after 4 tries it's running. Huh? I'm going to try a clean install on a different hard drive. Thanks Ed
can be something wrong with your disk.
test it with the seagate diag : http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/support/downloads/seatools/
or download ubcd : http://www.ultimatebootcd.com/

OK disk tested fine. The fresh install on another hard drive yielded the same results. I'm going to try a different board with all the same parts, to see what happens.

nobus, Thanks for the info on ubd I have an old version of ubd so I'll download the new one. Just put all the parts from the EVGA in an Asus p5nt deluxe & installed xp pro. It's only been a few minutes but so far so good. I'll get back in a few hours. Ed
fingers crossed..

It ended up being the monitor. I swapped out everything to a known good mobo & had no problems because it was hooked to a different monitor. I tried the monitor on another pc & it kept tuning off. I never thought of it. Gettin old I guess. lol Thanks for all your help nobus. ED
