Apple MacBook Stickies

How do I get "Stickie" notes to stay on my Desktop? Everytime I shut my computer down, they go away and I have to search and open them up again. My buddy has an old MacBook and his Stickies are permanent on the desktop...

    Also note that to manage any programs for whether or not you want them to run at startup you can go to System Preferences -> Accounts then select your account and then click the "Login Items" tab. There you can add/remove programs for startup and there is also a check box that can be checked if you want the application to load at startup but be hidden by default.
