Exchange 2007 - NetBIOS required???

Morning All,

Does anyone know if Exchange 2007 on Windows Server 2008 requires NetBIOS and WINS for name resolution?

I remember there was a caveat with Exchange 2003 in that it DID still require NetBIOS and WINS for intra-Exchange communication if you had more than 1x server in your organisation.  Otherwise it would function OK without it.

Many thanks

AFAIK, no you don't require NetBIOS and/or WINS for Exchange 2007.

If they are availble, and DNS fails, then Server will fail back onto them, but I dont think it is a prerequisite (I've never installed / configured WINS for example on a multi-server environment)

Definitely not required for 2007 which is great :) I disabled NetBIOS over TCP/IP on all of my Exchange (2007) servers.
