Is there a Windows interface available for serveRAID controllers so that I can check the controller's/drives' status without having to reboot?

Server is SeriesX 235, Type=8671, Model=41X
OS is Windows Server 2003 SBS R2
I don't know the current BIOS level of the controller. Would have to go onsite to get that as I'd need to reboot to look at the POST screen. That's one reason why I'm looking for a Windows interface to this controller. I can RDP in but can't reboot via RDP to look at stuff like that.

hi,
this is the link on your box if you need to upgrade some fw in the box:

http://www-947.ibm.com/systems/support/supportsite.wss/selectproduct?familyind=5102888&typeind=5102965&modelind=5112226&osind=5118054&brandind=5000008&oldbrand=5000008&oldfamily=5102888&oldtype=5102965&taskind=2&matrix=Y&psid=dm&continue.x=15&continue.y=11

click on RAID link,
select the link on "IBM ServeRAID software matrix" (22-Apr-2009)
last release 9.0

download and burn the "ibm_sw_srapp_9.00_anyos_32-64.iso"

This CD (the application CD) contains SW to be installed at Windows Level
to dowhat you need. If you do a full installation, you can use agent to notify
by e-mail, failure
(it may require a reboot, but probably just for agent)
After the setup, you'll find a ServeRAID application that gives info about disk
and give capability to add (hot way) other disks.

Some rows below, under "ServeRAID controller support", click on 7.12:
here there is another iso image, to build Support CD (what downloded before
and useful for you was Application CD).
The support CD, has instead the following uses:

- Bootable CD to build an array when no OS in the machine
- Update ServeRAID card FW
- extract OS device driver.

Use this on critical situations (booting from it), to check disk status;
I suggest to don't update FW level on your card, if you have not problem:
if you do, probably have to upgrade also Windows device driver, to avoid
event error for mismatching version between Card-FW and OS-DeviceDriver.

bye
