Do you have any other error messages?  My guess is that for some reason XP is not able to see your disk.  What type of hard disk is on the server.
Have made a update type installation?

Have been prompted for reformating your hard disk ?

have you choosen a different windows directory ? (c:\winxip for example)
If your using a SATA hard drive, you are going to need the AHCI drivers so that XP can detected your SATA hard drive(s). You or going to need the put the driver on a floppy and when your installing XP in the beginning you are going to have to press the F6 key to install the driver. Or you can try going into the BIOS and set it to IDE mode.

you can delete the partition with bootit-ng :  www.terabyteunlimited.com/
then it will install

I have tried to use a new hard drive as well.  woiuld i still need to use bootit-ng?
no - then not, just runn the install on it.
but if you have an sata disk, xp does not have the drivern so then you need to load the sata driver on a floppy, and hit F6 during the install (look at the bottom blue info line, it will tell you when)
