Avast Antivirus

after downloading Avast I get an error message that says

"There was an error while changing the product configuration"

When I try to open it from my programs I get this error:

"Unknown error   Program can not load iNews

When I hit ok on that window I get this message -

"VPS file was destroyed"

When I ran a scan it completed with the error -  "42040=VPS file was destroyed"

I have tried to repair Avast from the Add/Remove Programs window but there is no repair option. Instead when I click to remove I get the message "Avast! A setface error has occurred:2
Try to reinstall or contact support, please."

I have also tried opening the file <avast>\setup\setup.ini, and in the [Parts] section, and changing the line that says "part.vps=vps-42403"  to "part.vps=vps-42402"

Any suggestions?

Thank you!!

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Use this tool to remove Avast and try either reinstalling it or using another AV tool.
