Since version 12.0 Symantec has retired the "DPM Agent".
DPM 2007 can now write to tape itself, so there is no need for another application such as Backup Exec. If you're still using DPM 2006, you're out of luck. Stick with Backup Exec 11 and its DPM agent until you can upgrade DPM 2007.

If you have Backup Exec installed on the same server, stop all Backup Exec services and run the tapeinst.exe program from the Backup Exec installation folder. Choose the option to remove the Symantec drivers.

Make sure the Windows "Removable Storage" service is disabled.

Make sure the drivers for the tape library and tape drive(s) are loaded. An "Unknown Medium Changer" driver for the library is not sufficient.
What make and model tape library do you have? Is it the Tested Hardware List for DPM 2007?
