IIS 6.0 Redirect Problems

New web server with redirect - WebServerA (IIS 6.0)
Existing web server - WebServerB (Unix Apache version unknown)
Website -

Goal - be able to create websites after the forward slash on a new WebServerA while keeping the initial site files on the original WebServerB, i.e., .../bbb, etc,

Plan - Change my public DNS record to go to WebServerA and redirect the homepage to go to existing WebServerB website location.  I have already changed the public DNS for to go to the new webserverA

I can set this up with the Home Directory > Redirect options but will only work with http://IP which then shows IP in address bar (for external users) rather than  Internal users get resolved by local www record that points to WebServerB.  Same result with Index.htm redirect.

1. External Users show http://IP in address bar
2. Internal users cannot resolve anything after the forward slash because internal www DNS record points to WebServerB.  Cannot change www DNS to WebServerA or external redirect ceases to function
3. Have limited access to WebServerB therfore cannot create "Redirect - A share located on another computer"

You could use a proxy configuration so that all requests come to the one server and then the requests for the other pages/directories are proxied from there.
Check out these pages and see if this lets you do what you want to do ...

Thank for the reply, I should have responded sooner.

What I ended up doing was:

    1. Change public DNS to point to New WebServer
    2. Add new public A record "" to point to Existing WebServer
    3. Create website on New WebServer with root redirecting to
    4. Create as many virtual websites / subdirectories as I want all being, /bbb, etc.
