New web server with redirect - WebServerA (IIS 6.0)
Existing web server - WebServerB (Unix Apache version unknown)
Website - www.companyweb.com
Goal - be able to create websites after the forward slash on a new WebServerA while keeping the initial site files on the original WebServerB, i.e. www.companyweb.com/aaa
, .../bbb, etc,
Plan - Change my public DNS record to go to WebServerA and redirect the homepage to go to existing WebServerB website location. I have already changed the public DNS for www.companyweb.com
to go to the new webserverA
I can set this up with the Home Directory > Redirect options but will only work with http://IP
which then shows IP in address bar (for external users) rather than www.companyweb.com
. Internal users get resolved by local www record that points to WebServerB. Same result with Index.htm redirect.
1. External Users show http://IP
in address bar
2. Internal users cannot resolve anything after the forward slash because internal www DNS record points to WebServerB. Cannot change www DNS to WebServerA or external redirect ceases to function
3. Have limited access to WebServerB therfore cannot create "Redirect - A share located on another computer"
