cannot create trust relationship

Dear Experts,
I have two domain controllers running windows 2000 advanced server in  different forests.one is abc.com and other xyz.com. abc.com is in production and is running many applications.Xyz.com is newly introduced . there is a firewall in between them and all the ports have been opened.  when i try to add the abc.com in xyz.com domain in the trusted domain ,it throws an error could not contact the domain. please help me out.

thanks for your response . i had checked this article . I didn't help .Both servers are running windows 2000 advanced server 2000 sp4

Did you check the last link and create the relevant LMHOST files?

Thanks experts for your support
The issue is resolved now. the network administrator found some wrong entries in the routing table due to which the  the querries were not routed properly.After fixing the entries the trust relationship was created successfully.
