Page cannot be displayed. But can ping google.com
Morning,
I'm receiving page cannot be displayed via numerous internet browsers.
However I can successfully ping google.com or bbc.co.uk etc...
I can download antivirus updates etc...
So the machine is connected to the internet but won't display any webpages in any browsers.
I've done a full virus and spyware scan, this did bring up some items but have all been "cleansed"
Any advice will be appreciated.

Just one machine.
Just checked the windows native firewall and it states it needs to be updated.
But when I click "update settings now" an error comes up "Windows Firewall was unable to make the requested updates."

I would get a boot from cd linux disk and see if you have the same kind of problems. If you do focus on the network, if you don't focus on the OS.
What kind of network is this?

Has this ever worked if so consider using system restore to roll back to a time when it did work.
If not disabale all startup programs apart from av by going start > run msconfig > select the services tab , then select the hice all microsoft services, diasble all apart from your av suite, next select select the startup tab disable all again aprt from the av suite. restart and see if you can use I.e.
If so turn on the process's one by one until you find what is causing the browser to fail.
If that fails get a copy of hijack this and post the results here
