Yes you can.  You have the option of either installing it on the same server or a different server.

It's the same exact software as BES, just a cheaper license and it's supported on the same server.  No reason it won't work on a separate server.

As mentioned you can install BES on a separate server and it is the recommend configuration.  If you have Exchange 2003 you need to install Exchange System Manager and then all the updates that are installed on the mail server (e.g. Exchange SP2 and DST update KB926666).  If you have Exchange 2007 you just need to install Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 which can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=e17e7f31-079a-43a9-bff2-0a110307611e&DisplayLang=en

To clarify, my comments above are referring to what you need to install onto the BES if it is on a separate server.

What is SQL Server and how does it work?

The purpose of this paper is to provide you background on SQL Server. It’s your self-study guide for learning fundamentals. It includes both the history of SQL and its technical basics. Concepts and definitions will form the solid foundation of your future DBA expertise.

The only sever you must not install BES onto is a Terminal Server running in Application Mode.  Also you should not install BES onto a server in a DMZ.  If you need more info on this please post back.

If you are installing Blackberry Professional Software (BPS) it can be installed on both the Exchange Server or a separate server.  Just follow the below for the BPS option.

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/professional/toolkit.jsp

If you are referring to the full version BES, it is recommended not to install this on an Exchange server, but it should be installed on a separate server.  Follow this for detailed instructions and video.

Stick with RIM as your source for installing these products.

Hi, any version of BES or BPS can be installed on a separate server.  My comments above are based on you running BlackBerry Professional.
