SQL Server 2005 Sa Login Locked Out

Summary:
Mixed Mode Authentication
Able to login with Window's account that's associated with Administrator's group on the box
Within Management Studio when right-clicking on sa, then selecting properties, and then status I can uncheck the 'Login is locked out' box and then click OK. I test out the login again and it states that the login is still locked out. Sure enough when I go back into the properties its states that its locked out. So I try a different approach,  ALTER LOGIN sa WITH PASSWORD = 'xxx' UNLOCK and it completes successfully, but the results are the same, the account continues to be locked out. Any suggestions?

well, you have followed the right steps, but I guess you might have infected with virus. have you scanned your server?

Right click on the user accout within the management window.  There is a boolean true / false value for locking the account out permanently.  I have done this to disable all the attempts that I was getting of hackers trying to use it to get in.

I don't see this option when right-clicking on the user account under Security/Logins within Management Studio. I have Enterprise 2005, is this possibly a 2008 feature?

Nope, we have 2005 as well.  I will go look at the server then post.

I was able to do this by unchecking the 'Enforce password policy' option.
I wanted to keep the login 'Enabled' but prevent it from being 'Locked Out'.

The lockout functionality can be permanently disabled by navigating to Security > Logins > sa > Properties in SQL Server Management Studio.  Uncheck the Enforce password policy option.
