IEAK 8, How to set New Tab Behavior

I'm currently creating a custom install for IE 8 to distribute to my end users.  I want new tabs to open their home page and not the new tab page.  The setting is located under Internet Options > Tab Settings > When a new tab is opened.  I don't want to change this after the install and would like to make it part of the custom install.  Does anyone know where this setting is located or of a way I can accomplish this?

You can accomplish much of these customizations in a GPO.

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc985351.aspx

It might be a more effective way since you control them all centrally and they are enforced.

That sounds like a very good idea.  I know this question might sound very basic, but do you know how to get the extra IE8 GP settings into my current AD setup?  Is there a patch or an add-on that I need to install?  Were a small shop so we don't have anyone here that has gone through this before.

This is what you can control in Preferences:

The Group Policy Templates are available from a client that has IE8 installed.  Simply create a new GPO from one of those machines and the templates will copy to the server.  If you need to add the template then right click the Administrative Templates heading and select Add/Remove Templates - you should find it there.

If you are not looking to controll this via GPO and want this feature in the base IE8 pkg

This can be modified using the config manager or in profile manager in IEAK 8

I, too, would like to do what Brew City wants to do (pre-set behavior of new tabs) via the IEAK installation package, not through GP.  (The referral to pre-setting Home Page(s) seem to have misunderstood the question.)  The apparent absence of this option within the IEAK strikes me as either brain-dead or self-serving on MS' part, since it leaves users with a "What do I do now" page on each new tab, until the user figures out or is instructed where to go to set new tab options.  There is a "Tabbed Browsing" component of the IEAK, but it's useless.  Insane.  If anyone does know how to modify the installation package to set new tab behavior, I'll find a way to throw some points at you.

sorry mtn_lion but I couldn't get a good answer on this so I just went the AD rout with controlling it with the new client side extensions.  I was hoping there was a registry setting that would change the setting, but I was unable to find one.

Thanks, BC.  Do you know if I it would work to deploy the GP in advance of installing IE8 and make the desired new tab behavior effective from the git-go?

Yes that is what I do.  I created an IE8 GPO, that I put my end users in and then install.  Either way I don't think it will matter as long as you hit them with a GPUPDATE /Force after you moved them linked to your new GPO.  Plus the setting that were talking about here was also in IE7, so I don't think you'll run into issues.  Honestly I've had to pause my IE8 roll out because of a few other project, but I will let you know if I come up with anything else once I start working on it again.

Excellent, thanks again.  I don't know how to throw points at you in a closed question; you know?  Leaving for work now....

don't worry about it.  This was my initial question anyway, plus I have a lifetime total of 0 points, so there not important to me.
