Are you asking if it is possible, or are you asking how to do it?

It is possible to configure failover and load balancing on an 1811.

For failover, you can run the HSRP (Hot Standby Routing Protocol).

For load balancing you can run the GLBP (Gateway Load Balancing Protocol)

I just tried enabling these on an 1811 and was able to enable them at least. Note however, I am running advanced IP services image on the 1811, not 100% sure if that will matter or not.

What version of IOS are you running?

I am asking if it is possible. I am going to purchase a new router  CISCO 2811 with 12.4 IOS version. Hope it works.

It is possible :) I just did it, like I said I used GLBP and HSRP. So if you use GLBP you can use two routers to load balance traffic. If one fails, the other just picks up the rest of the load.

In HSRP one router stays standby and does not forward any traffic. If the primary router fails, it kicks in and begins forwarding traffic. This is a configurable option on the 1811.

Attached is output of an 1811 router showing the IOS code, and the HSRP and the GLBP configuration commands.

Hope this helps!
