restoring rsg to usb

Backupexec 11d
Windows 2003, Exchange 2003

I'm trying to restore a information store. I've managed to start this process when I had the RSG path pointed to the C drive. C drive doesn't have enough space.

When the RSG path is set to the local external USB Disk(ntfs), the job fails with "access Denied".

Can anyone tell me why that is

You can't use a USB drive for Exchange storage. You can only use local storage, so you will need an additional hard disk. If that is not possible then you will need to build another system with enough space.

I thought the definition of local would be everything that shows up in disk manager but I guess not

Can't just add another disk and want to avoid building a staging system
how about iscsi ms initiator connected drive on the exchsrv.  Would that work ?
