Need BBS software for windows IIS

Hello,
I am looking for a simple, free BBS system to install on my own windows 2003 or 2008 server.  This will be a prototype student message board for a small post-graduate school.  The school has no BBS System setup or a way for students across different degree programs and years to communicate with each other (other than yahoo groups, etc. which individual student groups setup themselves).

I want a BBS system where users can create topics and threads.  On a windows IIS server (with MS SQL backend of any flavor).   I want to install this, so it can be ported to a school owned server in the future.

Prefer an open-source or free solution for now, but something I can host to keep the data secure.

It's been awhile since I messed with this, so pointing in any direction would be appreciated.
Windows because I have some servers and am familiar with IIS-SQL.
Thanks,
Berne

You may want to try phpBB3 (http://www.phpbb.com/).  It is free and open source, has a large support and customization community, and It will run off a Windows Server IIS/SQL.  But it does require PHP be installed on the server.

really any bulitine board system thats good and free is coded in php with a mysql backend.  You could install php using fastcgi or an iisasapi : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=17aAuMVippQ

phpbb is a really good one as alvin suggested, but there are better ones that range from plugins for e107, wordpress, mambo, joomla  to full BBS like phpbb and http://punbb.org/ and Vbulletin

here is a good thread:
