What is the longest amount of time the user has waited for it to complete?  Most likely it's just taking a long time for everything to download.

Once the message come up, there is no hope.. Outlook is locked.. I had him leave it open overnight and it was still trying to retrieve data.. if he goes in via web new mail is htere.

If you close outlook (red X) it stays in memory and will no restart till you go to task manager and then kill any OUTLOOK processes

I would try deleting the Outlook profile, deleting the .ost file, then recreating the Outlook profile and letting it re-download everything.

It sounds like your PST file is corrupted which is quite common for larged size mailboxes, similar to this issue:
http://www.windowsbbs.com/microsoft-mail-outlook-outlook-express-windows-mail/54668-outlook-hangs-launch.html

You can repair the PST/ OST file by following these steps:

Good luck!!

There is no PST file.. just the OST..

I think I will next try esmith69's suggestion of deleting the profile and the ost file.. that way if it is corrupt it should get straightened out.

I am having the user go to another machine, log in as himself, then create a new profile on that machine and see if the samed warnings are displayed and if Outlook hangs.

Creating a new profile should resolve the issue, but you will have to delete the old profile from the system with the corrupt OST file.

Alternatively you can repair the corrupt OST via this link:

I did delete all the profiles, but I did not delete the .ost file... BUT, I do not think that is the issue as it created a new .ost file so it essentially would be the same as if I deleted it.. I will check on a second machine and if that wirks, we can come back to deleting the profile and hte .ost files, then recreate the profile and see how it works.
