Dell DImension 9100 thinks it has SCSI CD and IDE CD wont work

Dell DImension 9100 - no SCSI at all on the motherboard.
Dell system TAG is 4v9hs1j
Has just 1 IDE CDRW DVD-R attached via IDE
Windows XP sees a SCSI CD but won't see any media inserted.
If you detach the IDE cable from the motheboard Windows still sees a SCSI CD
Have tried new BIOS, chipset driver, removing NERO etc etc but I dont think its anything to do with WIndows as in the BIOS is doesnt see any IDE devices at all as I tried to boot from the CD to reinstall WIndows.
Have also tried changing CD from Cable Select to Master - no difference.
Have tried different cable and different CD drves in 9100 and have proved cable and CD in the 9100 work in another PC.

To start simple (and you've done some good troubleshooting so far) have you tried to just reset the BIOS to defaults? I'm curious as to what it would list if you did.

Jeez why did I miss that?
Thanks I can now see the CD/DVD.
STrange though the SCSI one is also still there but who cares :)

Thanks again

normally, that is caused by installed burning soiftware; you can try uninstalling that, and test.
or use a free burner for testing :  http://cdburnerxp.se/
